GIA Underscores Real World Learning Experiences

GIA (Gemological Institute of America) promotes a combined theoretical and technical learning experience in each of its diploma programmes – Graduate Diamonds, Graduate Colored Stones, Graduate Gemologist – by regularly organising field trips to factories, retail outlets and more.

The Institute’s Graduate Diamonds class in Delhi recently visited the Manohar Lal Sarraf & Sons Jewellers (MLSSJ) showroom in New Delhi. Students were able to gain an overview of how a retail outlet functions – from the small diamond sorting process to the bench jeweller (karigar) setting diamonds in jewellery. GIA-educated MLSSJ support staff showed them the back-end operations including inventory, bookkeeping, communications, and quality control processes.

GIA’s (Gemological Institute of America) inaugural “Evolve” excellence conclave drew over 200 participating jewellers on Feb. 10, at the Chancery Pavilion in Bengaluru. The event, held in association with the Jewellers’ Association of Bengaluru (JAB), is part of GIA’s initiative to empower the industry, address the need for learning, and encourage excellence in the gem and jewellery industry, thereby building consumer confidence. The interactive platform offered jewellers an opportunity to network and gain inspiration from successful personalities in other industries.

International Gemological Institute To Host Buyer-Seller Knowledge Meet

The International Gemological Institute (IGI) - the world's largest independent gem certification and appraisal institute - has announced the launch of their new and exclusive property called the“The IGI D-Show”, a two day buyer–seller knowledge meet organized to facilitate easier communication within the market. The first such show will be organized by IGI in Andhra Pradesh’s capital, the city of pearls, the birth place of diamonds and housing the world-renowned Golconda diamond mines – Hyderabad; in the presence of well-known market players and luminaries from the jewelry industry.

The coastal city of Chennai welcomed the gem and jewellery industry’s most illustrious recruiting event for the first time during the GIA Jewellery Career Fair on Saturday, October 27. The event, held in association with the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) at the Hotel Ambassador Pallava in Egmore, connected close to 200 job seekers with 28 recruiters from gem and jewellery companies.

Chennai’s inaugural GIA Jewellery Career Fair, the sixth such event in India, saw remarkable success with job seekers with various backgrounds and experience levels meeting directly with company recruiters and industry experts – in all areas of the industry including diamond grading, merchandising, sales, marketing, human resources and communication.

GIA Expands Gem Education In Dubai

GIA (Gemological Institute of America) has added courses to the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) schedule following the tremendously positive response from students who attended GIA’s Diamond Grading Lab class there in February. The Accredited Jewelry Professional (AJP) diploma recently concluded, whereas the Colored Stone Grading Lab class and Gem Identification Lab class are scheduled to begin later this year. GIA will continue to offer complimentary diamond and gemstone seminars to DMCC members and aspiring professionals.
