A distinguished panel of judges selected a total of 40 sketches from the total of 800 entries received nationwide during the first round of screening for The Artisan Awards 2014. The panel comprised PayalSinghal, PriyaTanna, Ashiesh Shah, Shimul Mehta Vyas, ShanooBijlani and Milan Choksi.
After going through the huge number of entries received, the panel was of the unanimous opinion that a number of designers had worked ingeniously to bring alive the different eras in Indian cinema through jewellery. The four eras in which contestants were asked to submit their designs were Monochromatic Magic, Golden Glory, Colourama and Avant Garde. The categories Avant-Garde and Colourama witnessed the most entries.
The following have been shortlisted in each category:
Monochromatic Magic – the silent era to the talkies: Soni Amin (Jaipur), Dolly Nawalkha (Jaipur), Aditi Gupta (Delhi), Astha Gupta (Delhi), Parkkavi B (Coimbatore), Kamaraj M (Coimbatore), AkashDhameliya (Surat), Swati Kadam (Surat), PriyankaKhaitan (Kolkata) and ArunavaChakraborty (Mumbai)
Golden Glory – the golden era of Indian cinema: Meghna Bag (Thane), Sanafiya Hakim (Thane), Natasha Adnani (Mumbai), Kosha Shah (Mumbai), Sanju Das (Mumbai), PrathaPravinChavan (Mumbai), AnimeshHazra (Chennai), Subir Das (Howrah), TarashTudu (Howrah) and SanskrutiThorat (Ahmednagar)
Colourama– the masala movies era: SubhankarBhowmick (Mumbai), SushilSolanki (Mumbai), Sanjeev Banerjee (Mumbai), SunitaShekhawat (Jaipur), QueetaRawat (Delhi), A. Ashok Kumar (Coimbatore), MamtaRajaram (Pune), MurugeshManickam (Bangalore), ShenbagaramanPillai (Bangalore) and ShreyaSaggi (Jalandhar)
Avant Garde– the era of global reach: ShrutikaPatankar (Mumbai), ZoharaMoorthy (Mumbai), Mehul Gupta (Mumbai), MeghaLodha (Mumbai), ArunavaChakraborty (Mumbai), SoukataBasuMalhotra (Bangalore), Tarun Jain (Delhi), Prashant Kumar Soni (Delhi), Himani Harish (Noida) and Azba Khan (Ahmedabad).
The Artisan Awards 2014 is a new design competition aimed at celebrating creativity, innovation and artistry and bringing designers to the forefront.
The selected designers will now have their pieces fabricated for the subsequent rounds of judging.
