KP Chair Meets ALROSA CEO in Moscow; ALROSA Rep Elected RJC Vice Chair

ALROSA CEO Sergey Ivanov and the Chair of the Kimberley Process (KP) Hilde Hardeman held a business meeting with during the latter’s recent visit to Moscow. The two discussed various key issues that are on the agenda of the organisation in 2018, the year of EU’s Chairmanship of the KP scheme.

Among the points covered was the ongoing reform process of KP, including such areas as the establishment of a permanent KP Secretariat, the update of the Core Document and the strengthening of the Peer review mechanism. ALROSA has been an active participant in the World Diamond Council (WDC), which represents the diamond industry as an Observer in KP.

During her trip, Ms. Hardeman also visited various ALROSA facilities in Moscow.

In a separate announcement, ALROSA also said that its Head of International Relations, Peter Karakchiev, was elected as Vice Chair of Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) during its 2018 annual general meeting that was held yesterday in Moscow.

Karakchiev joined ALROSA in April 2013, being promoted to the head of the Department in May 2015. He is responsible for a wide range of ALROSA’s international activities including participation in industry organisations and developing the Company’s position on key agenda items in the diamond industry. He is also member of the WDC Board of Directors.

ALROSA has been a member of the RJC since 2016 and was granted a three-year COP certification in 2017 following a successful audit with an independent RJC accredited audit firm.
