Russia-Angola Business Council Formed; ALROSA’s Sergey Ivanov Elected as Chairman

The first meeting of the newly formed Russia-Angola Business Council, which was held at the premises of Moscow the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry last week, elected ALROSA CEO Sergey Ivanov as Chairman of the body, ALROSA said in a release. The body also decided to host a Russian-Angolan business forum in early April to coincide with the visit of Angolan President João Lourenço to Moscow.

The inaugural meeting of the Council discussed the main tasks before it, including the development of business contacts, the promotion of Russian business in the Angolan market and attraction of the Angolan business to Russia. The Council will also cooperate with relevant ministries and departments of Russia and Angola, participate in intergovernmental commission meetings on trade and economic, scientific and technical cooperation, the statement said.

“The creation of Russia-Angola Business Council is a confirmation of Russian business intentions to grow stronger on the African continent, including Angola. We will be engaged in the development of a constructive dialogue at all levels so that Russia can take a worthy place in this market,” Sergey Ivanov said.

The meeting also adopted a work plan for 2019 which included the holding of the Business Forum. Other priorities include the formation of a membership base, the creation of expert councils in key areas and the organization of a working visit to Angola for council members.

Under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, business councils for cooperation with African countries such as Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe are already in existence.
