World’s Largest Fancy Intense Pink Diamond to Go Under the Hammer Soon

Sotheby’s has some rare delights lined up for gemstone and jewellery connoisseurs at its Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels auction to be  held at Geneva on November 15, 2017.

The central attraction of the sale, The Raj Pink, described as “The world’s largest Fancy Intense Pink diamond”,  weighs a good 37.30 carats. It has been estimated at between CHF 19, 250,000 to CHF 20,000,000 by the auction house.

“The discovery of any pink diamond is exceptional, but the Raj Pink’s remarkable size and intensity of colour places it in the rarefied company of the most important pink diamonds known,” media reports quoted  David Bennett, worldwide chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division as saying.

It has been described as a remarkable stone by experts; and the rough stone from which it is cut is  said to have been studied for a year after its recovery in 2015, before being assigned  to a master cutter who has shaped it into a cushion-modified brilliant cut stone.

Apart from this unique gem,  the  sale  will also feature “an important array of coloured diamonds”. These include an outstanding Fancy Vivid Blue diamond weighing 7.41 carats, mounted as a ring by Moussaieff.

“For the 10th anniversary of our dedicated and themed sale of Noble Jewels, we are proud to offer superb jewels with important provenance, such as jewels from the collection of Princess Mathilde of Württemberg and the emerald and diamond necklace from the collection of the Duchess of Berry,” said Sotheby’s.
