From Minister of Commerce & Industry India

India’s Gem & Jewellery industry is a resplendent star of the Indian economy. It is one of the important functions of the country’s export-led growth. It is one of the fastest growing sectors and accounts for 20% of our exports in last financial year.

India has emerged as the largest manufacturing centres of cut and polished diamonds in the world. It contributes 60% of the world’s supply in terms of Value and 85% in terms of volume. Eleven out every twelve diamonds set in jewellery worldwide are processed in India.

Credit for this phenomenal success goes equally to Indian artisans and Indian entrepreneurs. The skill of Indian artisans honed over generations has fused with the spirit of new age entrepreneurs. I hope that his synergy lesds to India developing in to the only one stop-shop for gems and jewellery.

I convey my felicitation to the awards winners and best wishers to the Council for achieving even grater success in the years to come.

Kamal Nath
