Sanjoy Pramanik of India Wins Bronze in Jewellery Making at Global Skills Challenge, Australia

Sanjoy Pramanik from West Bengal won a Bronze medal in Jewellery Making at The 2019 Global Skills Challenge held in mid-April and organised by the Victorian Skills Commissioner and WorldSkills Australia. He had undergone rigorous training with the help and assistance of the Gem & Jewellery Skills Council of India (GJSCI) and under the guidance of VBJ Chennai prior to the competition.

This was one of the biggest international skills excellence competitions held in Australia this year with 500 competitors and officials from 16 different countries competing in 24 different skill categories. Ten countries viz. Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Japan, France, Australia, China, Brazil, Russia, Hong Kong participated in the jewellery category along with India. India participated in 21 skills and won two silvers and two bronze medals, including the bronze in jewellery making. 

Participation in the competition was part of Sanjoy’s training and exposure in preparation for the WorldSkills competition which will take place in Kazan, Russia from 22nd - 27th August, 2019.

Sanjoy is the son of a farmer and was chosen to represent the country after a rigorous local selection process organised by GJSCI. He is currently undergoing training to enhance his knowledge and perfect his skills with the help and assistance of GJSCI and under the guidance of VBJ Chennai and expert trainer Anupam Karmarkar. Apart from this, GJSCI also engaged the gold medal winner of 2015 WorldSkills to support working on the minute details of his training.  NSDC has also extended its support.
