Alrosa has announced the recovery a large 105.6 carat diamond from its Jubilee kimberlite pipe. The diamond was extracted by the company’s business unit Aikhal Mining and Processing Division (MPD) at the processing plant No.14. Jubilee pipe is well known as a source of large diamonds.

The diamond is of a “4 Black Sawables 2 colour” quality and has an octahedral shape; it is transparent, with a moderate yellowish hue. There are small olivine, graphite and sulphide inclusions in this crystal.

Quite a few diamonds between 50 to 120 carats were recovered from the Jubilee pipe year to date. One of them, a 76.07-carat diamond, was named in honour of 70 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War – the substantial part of World War II. Another Jubilee diamond, a 64.23-carat octahedral stone, was named this December in honour of the 40th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Angola.
