De Beers Completes Winter Road Programme Enabling Critical Supplies to Reach Gahcho Kué

De Beers Canada  has “successfully completed” its  winter road re-supply programme. As a result, the Company was able  to deliver  nearly 50 million litres of fuel and approximately 63,000 tonnes of cargo to the Gahcho Kué Mine over 55 days.

The De Beers Canada programme was completed with zero injuries and no environmental incidents, the Company underlined.

“The 50 million litres was the most ever delivered to the site during a single winter road campaign,” De Beers affirmed. “More than 1,000 loads of fuel were hauled directly from Hay River to the Gahcho Kué Mine site, a distance of approximately 1,000 km.”

Apart from this, the road was also used for the re-supply of replacement motors and other spare parts for heavy equipment. This is  another critical requirement as it enables  the site’s mobile maintenance shop to continue to service the mining fleet and avoid costly airfreight to the mine site, the Company said.

“Overall, 1,735 loads brought fuel, explosives, general freight and other items northbound to the minem,” De Beers reported. “Some of the larger items included two spare scrubbers for the mine’s process plant, a drill and a new excavator. There were also 63 backhaul loads of recycling and other items.”
