The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a notification No.113/2009-2014 authorising the Surat-based International Institute of Diamond Grading and Research India Pvt Ltd to provide certification and grading of diamonds. The Notification has made the necessary amendment to the provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy 2009-2014.

The lab has been notified and is now allowed to certify   grade diamonds of 0.25 carats and above.

With this latest addition, there are now 18 labs in India that are covered under the policy including GIA, IGI and others.
