Four leading jewellers from Dubai have joined together with the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) to create a 5-8 km long gold chain that will weigh about 180 kgs, which will be the longest in the world.  The chain will be unveiled at a promotional event during the Dubai Shopping Festivalin early 2015, DGJG chairman, Tawhid Abdullah said at a media briefing.

The four – Malabar Gold and Diamonds, Siroya, Sky Jewellers and Jewel One – are leading jewellers from the region.

 Dubbed as the ‘Dubai Celebration Chain’, the finished product is likely to be displayed at Gold Souq during first week of January. It is likely to need about 200 metres of space for display. Currently, nearly 70 workers, doing 10 hour shifts are working to get the mega chain ready for the event.

Abdullah also said that customers can book a piece of the chain by paying a deposit at any of the outlets of the four jewellers who are participating in the promotion. Bookings can be for a 8 gm bracelet or for a 26 gm chain.

The project is part of the special celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Shopping Festival.
