Gemfields Seeks Partnerships in Sri Lanka to Form Supply Chain

Media reports emanating out of Sri Lanka say that Gemfields, has called for Expressions of Interest (EoI) from local mining companies “with a view to setting up a supply chain in the Sri Lankan gemstone industry”. The invitation was sent through Gemfields’ subsidiary Ratnapura Lanka Gemstones  

“We will call for expressions of interest from local mining companies with a view to establishing an organised supply chain in the Sri Lankan gemstone industry,” Gemfeilds is reported to have said in a statement. “Once the supply chain is established, the gems will be offered to international buyers via Gemfields’ proven auction platforms, thereby adding value to Sri Lankan gemstone production, growing the sector and contributing to economic development.”

Interested parties including licensed mining companies/ persons and registered gem dealers were eligible to submit  EoIs, the Company said.

Also on offer from Gemfields   to the Sri Lankan gemstone industry through its technical capabilities, is proprietary grading systems and marketing methodologies, the Company is reported to have announced.

“We are optimistic we will be able to bring our proven-expertise to this already-established market for the benefit of local mining communities and the Sri Lankan gemstone industry,” Ian Harebottle, Chief Executive, Gemfields has been quoted as saying.
