GJEPC Holds Seminar on ‘Essentials of International Trade’ at Surat

The Surat RO of The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council organised a well-attended seminar on ‘Essentials of International Trade’ to acquaint members of the industry with the opportunities in the export markets and the basic information on how these could be tapped. The seminar was part of a lecture series being organised under the banner “The Colloquium - II”. It took place on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Indian Diamond Institute, Katargam, Surat, and was attended by almost 150 people.

International Institute of Import Export Management, Surat was the Knowledge Partner for the event which was also supported by the Jewellery Manufacturers Association of Surat.

Dinesh Navadiya, Regional Chairman, Gujarat delivered the welcome speech and said that lack of knowledge regarding documentation, legal formalities, new laws as well as the benefits provided by government on export was an important factor restricting more manufacturers from entering the export business.

He also spoke about various other projects of the GJEPC such as Parichay Card, CFC, Agate Centre of Excellence, Swasthya Ratna Scheme and Reskilling programme etc.

Jilpa Sheth, Asst. Director, Gujarat, GJEPC made a brief presentation on the Council’s activities and the procedures for, and benefits of, becoming a member.

The two main presentations were made by Chief Consultant of Pro Ability, Sanjeev Bishnoi and Dipak Manohar, Chairman & President of IIIEM & Manohar International Pvt Ltd.

The former emphasized the need for self-development, awareness of what is happening in the market, and the need to think out of the box to survive and excel in the industry.

Manohar explained the complete cycle of exports, starting from IEC code to matters related to financing, documentation, how to participate in various scheme introduced by DGFT and Govt. of India etc. He also covered concepts like Diamond Dollar Accounts, Advance Remittance, Re-Export, Export via Exhibitions etc.

The seminar ended with a Q & A session where participants cleared many of their doubts.

Kalpesh Vaghasiya, President, Surat Jewellery Manufacturers Association and Proprietor, Palak Jewellery, said, “We look forward to more such seminars being organised.”

Jayesh Balar, Kalista Jewels added, “It was very educative for importers and exporters from the G&J industry.”

GJEPC also announced that it would be conducting a series of seven workshops to give an in-depth knowledge of various aspects of the export business.
