GJEPC meets delegation from Okavango Diamond Company

On September 9th, 2014 a delegation of the Okavango Diamond Company of Botswana met with teh Chairman of GJEPC and other representatives of the body.

 

Recent developments in the financing of the diamond industry, namely, the increase of advance remittance from 90 days to 180 days was amongst matters discussed between the delegations.

The ODC delegation communicated that they were happy on the improving payment clearance received from Indian importers.

GJEPC requested the ODC delegation to take up the issue of transit visas when travelling to Gaborone via South Africa; and to help solve the issue through bilateral discussions between Botswana and South Africa.

The issue of synthetic diamonds was discussed and the Council reported that cases of synthetic diamonds being mixed  with natural rough diamonds has vastly reduced due to testing in automatic melee sorting machines, GIA, HRD and IGI.
