Glamourous Opening to 6th IIJW

The 6th India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) opened this afternoon at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai promising jewellery connoisseurs in the country a preview of some of the finest designer collections created by the Indian industry. Many of them will be on display at the IIJS which opens later this week.

Chief Guest at the Inauguration, Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis, a finance professional and wife of Devendra Fadnavis, Hon’ble CM of Maharashtra, was joined by designer and BJP spokesperson, Ms Shaina NC, social activist Anar Patel, who is also daughter of Gujarat CM Ms Anandiben Patel and GJEPC brand ambassador, the glamourous Sonam Kapoor, in declaring the show open. Ms Fadnavis said that the fact that Indian jewellery adorned women across the globe today was a tribute to the skills of the manufacturers, and stated that India would become the place to be in the years ahead.

Ms Shaina NC and Ms Patel both congratulated the gem and jewellery industry for their support to the needy and underprivileged across India and praised GJEPC, Gitanjali Gems and the NGO Beti for coming together to focus attention on Women’s Empowerment during the very first show of the Jewellery Week.

Earlier, welcoming the guests Vipul Shah of GJEPC said that this year the IIJW would comprise a blend of established names and many from the young brigade who bring a fresh approach to the industry. He said that in the short span of six years the IIJW was now an established international lifestyle show and that this year a group of designers from Thailand would also be part of the event on the final day.

The first show was a true extravaganza in two sequences presented by Gitanjali Gems and Beti with the models displaying exquisite sarees designed by Shaina NC. In the first part, under the theme ‘Mesmerising Diamonds’, the audience was wowed by some exquisite jewellery from leading diamond jewellery brands Nakshatra, Asmi, Nirvana and others, adorned by models, with film star Anushka Ranjan as the show stopper.

In the subsequent segment, nearly 50 well known celebs from the worlds of film, TV, music, entertainment and business walked the ramp as part of the Beti show presented by Gitanjali Gems to support women’s empowerment and fight against atrocities.

The two segments were linked by a new campaign that is being released by Leading Jewelers of the World to spread the message that “real diamonds are truly mesmerising”. The TV commercial of the campaign likens the girl child to a natural diamond, saying that both grow more precious with each passing day.
