Good US Demand at 4th Israel Diamond Week in New York

The fourth edition of the Israel Diamond Week in New York witnessed strong demand for large stones, while the typical 'American' commercial goods used by the retail jewellers were moved surprisingly well, the organisers said in a press release today.

The four-day event which took place on the trading floor of the Diamond Dealers Club of New York (DDC) saw participation of about a hundred Israeli bourse members and an equal number of American diamantaires. Over 200 visiting buyers and droves of last-moment visitors who came looking for goods to stock up on, attended the event.

DDC President Reuven Kaufman said that while the global market is not performing very well, there are many positivve signs in the US market and economy which indicate that “we can look forward to a good holiday season as American retailers seem to be primed to stock up on inventory!"

He added that there had been a lot of selling and buying during the week.

IDE President Shmuel Schnitzer said that there is a “waiting list of companies who wish to join this unique interbourse event” that is almost as large as the number of companies that took part.

The IDE said that traders showed 'as much flexibility as possible' in their pricing.
