GSI’s Botswana Lab Introduces Sarine Axiom in Africa

Gemological Science International’s (GSI) newly set up laboratory in Botswana is the first in Africa to begin using DiaMension™ Axiom, Sarine’s next generation high-end technology diamond scanner for measuring and modelling polished diamonds. The machine will help GSI detect the tiniest attributes and features of the diamond, such as facets’ pointing down to a microns level of accuracy, the lab said in a statement.

“Our clients will significantly benefit from one of the new capabilities offered by its products”, said Debbie Azar, EVP, GSI.

DiaMension™ Axiom is the only scanner that enables fully automated cut & symmetry grading says Sarine, the manufacturers. According to them, it is a revolutionary new technology that uses “new in-light direct modelling of real-time microscope analysis, detecting the tiniest imperfections of the diamond, such as facet Junctions”. It replaces the earlier 3D modelling based on shadows which has been used by the industry for the past 25 years.

“We are deeply honored that GSI, one of the largest laboratories in the world, has placed their trust in our products and consider it a privilege to continue to be their supplier of choice”, said Uzi Levami, the chief executive of Sarine.
