Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive Visits BDB with Business Delegation

A business delegation from Hong Kong headed by Mr C Y Leung, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, People's Republic of China paid a visit to the Bharat Diamond Bourse on February 2 and held discussions with the representatives of BDB and GJEPC.

During their visit the delegation was shown around the Bourse, following which the two sides deliberated on the close ties between the gems and jewellery industries of the two countries. Anoop Mehta, President BDB and Praveenshankar Pandya, Chairman GJEPC spoke briefly about the Indian industry and its trade relations with Hong Kong.

The delegation of about 40 business leaders representing different industries was in Mumbai as part of the first official visit to India by Mr Leung. Besides the meeting with the diamond trade, the delegation also held deliberations with other industry bodies to enhance trade ties between the two countries.

The Chief Executive said that there is a lot of room for co-operation between India and Hong Kong, adding that India could benefit by making use of the "super-connector" role of Hong Kong between India and the rest of China.
