IDI Surat Hosts Convocation Day and Career Fair

Indian Diamond Institute (IDI) celebrated its 38th Convocation-cum-Institute’s Foundation Day at IDI-City Centre, Vesu Campus last Friday where students from the graduating batches received their certificates and outstanding performers received gold medals and other awards.

Jayantibhai D. Narola, MD, Shree Ramkrishna Exports Pvt. Ltd., Surat was Chief Guest while Dr. Chandan Chaterjee, Director, CED, Gandhinagar, P.K. Makwana, Addl. Resident Collector, Surat, D. R. Parmar, Deputy Industries Commissioner, Gandhinagar, Dineshbhai Navadia, Regional Chairman, GJEPC and President, Surat Diamond Association and leading diamond merchants & jewellers were also present.

IDI Executive Director Samir Joshi welcomed the guests and read out a message from Manoj Dwivedi, IAS, Chairman, IDI. He congratulated all the successful students and also highlighted some of the key activities undertaken by IDI during the year

Joshi also spoke about the services being offered at IDI-DDRC (Diamond Detection & Resource Centre) and the Reskilling Programmes undertaken at Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh & Surat.

Dr. Chatterjee congratulated the students and said that the skills of the youth should be utilised at the right time and at the right place.

Chief Guest Jayantibhai Narola said that a proper manufacturing strategy can help one obtain additional yield and technology was a critical aspect for the industry.

Dinesh Navadiya cautioned the trade against illegal mixing of synthetic with natural diamonds which has shaken consumer confidence in the last three years.

Hitesh Verma, Deputy Director, IDI proposed a Vote of Thanks.

Alongside the function, IDI also organised Career Fair 2016 exclusively for those students who had just passed out of the institute. Five leading companies -- Jewel Goldi, Fabulous Unrounds, Laxmi Jewellery Exports Pvt Ltd., Enshine, K.K. Jewels and Megharsh Gems directly interacted and interviewed those seeking jobs. 

Out of the 57 students who participated in the preliminary round, 30 were selected by the G&J companies for a second round of interviews to be subsequently conducted at their premises.
