De Beers’ International Institute of Diamond Grading & Research (IIDGR) held a synthetic detection symposium at Bharat Diamond Bourse presenting recent developments in detection including technology and instruments like the Automated Melee Screening device.

The seminar was hosted by Gemmological Institute of India (GII), which offers testing and screening facilities for detection of synthetics at its Diamond Detection Resource Centre (DDRC) within the Bourse. GII’s Managing Trustee Rajendrakumar A. Shah felicitated the guests and gave a brief overview of the seminar.

The IIDGR team, led by the Institute’s Commercial Director, Jamie Clark made a brief presentation on synthetics and the development of technology to detect such stones to an audience of nearly 100 diamantaires. The team also demonstrated the use of the machine in identifying and detecting synthetics.

The seminar ended with a Q & A session where the audience eagerly participated in the discussion.
