India Pavilion with 93 Companies Opens at Hong Kong Show

One of the highlights of the twin Hong Kong shows which opened yesterday was a large India Pavilion comprising 93 Indian companies from the loose diamonds, gemstones and jewellery segments of the industry. The pavilion is organised by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

The first of the shows, the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl show from 28 February to 4th March 2017 at AsiaWorld-Expo was inaugurated yesterday by Mr Gregory So, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HK government.

Hong Kong is the second largest destination for exports of gems & jewellery from India and the large Indian contingent of the best companies specially hand-picked by the Council to showcase India’s capabilities in loose diamonds, gemstones and jewellery design is an indication of the importance of the market for India.

The India pavilion comprises 33 exhibitors in loose diamonds, 22 exhibitors in gemstones and 38 exhibitors in finished jewellery.

Speaking at the inauguration.Mr So said that last year, total exports of precious jewellery, pearls, gem stones and semi-precious stones from Hong Kong was about US$27 billion. He added that the twin shows have attracted over 4,400 exhibitors from over 50 countries and regions.

The presence of so many exhibitors and buyers who have participated in earlier shows indicates that return the platform has been helpful to establish good connections and do businesses, Mr So said.
