KP Intersessional Meeting Opens in Angola On June 23

Angola, the current chair of the Kimberley Process, will host the Intersessional Meeting of the scheme from June 23- 26, 2015 at Luanda. Delegates from over 80 countries are expected to attend.

The meeting will be addressed by Dr. Graciano Domingos, Governor of Luanda; Dr. Francisco Queiroz, Ministry of Geology & Mines; Edward Asscher of World Diamond Council and Bernardo Campos, the current Chairperson of the KPCS.

The first day will also see presentations by the Chairs of individual Working Groups and seminars on ‘Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing’ as well as ‘Voluntary Principles on Security & Human Rights’.

This is the first meeting of the KP after the last Plenary in Shanghai where the member states were divided on the question of electing the Vice Chair. Australia and Dubai were the two contenders. The Vice Chair for the current year will assume office as Chair of the KPCS in 2016.

An Indian delegation comprising senior government officials and represntatives of GJEPC are attending the meeting. The delegation is led by Siddharth Singh, DG, DGS&D.
