Lucapa Recovers 227-Ct Diamond; First with New XRT Circuit

Lucapa Diamond Company announced today that it had recovered a 227 carat diamond from its Lulo Diamond Project in Angola. The diamond is a premium quality Type II a D-colour stone. This newest recovery ranks as the second largest stone after the record 404 carat diamond recovered last year; and the seventh + 100 carat gem to be recovered to date from Lulo. Interestingly, the Company pointed out that while the other six +100 carat stones were recovered from Mining Blocks 8 and 6, the 227 carat stone has been recovered from Mining Block 28, located approximately 4 kms from Mining Block 8. The latest recovery also ranks as the largest diamond recovered through the new XRT large-diamond recovery circuit, installed in the December 2016 quarter. Though the diamond has not yet been valued by the Company's experts, the general expectation is that it will be worth more than the value of the equipment.
