Lulo Parcel Nets US$ 1,212 Per Carat for Lucapa

Australian miner Lucapa Diamond Company, which operates the Lulo Diamond mine at Angola with its partners, announced that it had recently sold a parcel of 3,642 carats of alluvial diamonds recently for gross sale proceeds of US$4.4 million.

The average selling price per carat was US$ 1,212, the Company said.

The latest parcel included a 28.5 carat light pink that the Company said isthe “largest and most valuable coloured diamond recovered and sold to date". Other high value gems included a 49.8-carat Type IIa white and two light fancy yellows weighing 11.9 and 10.9 carats.

Lucapa CEO Stephen Wetherall said that diamond production remained ahead of plan during August following the record monthly output achieved last month.

The Sociedade Mineira do Lulo, Lda, the company conducting mining at Lulo, held an inventory of 1,685 carats after the last sale cut off.
