Alrosa yesterday announced the appointment of Sergey Amelin, former Deputy CEO of Severalmaz JSC, as CEO of its 32.8%  owned Catoca Ltd Mining Co. Catoca has operations in the Republic of Angola.

Alrosa said that “Catoca’s General Meeting decided to appoint the representative of ALROSA as CEO taking into account the company’s technological know-how in exploring and operating the greenfields”. The move was also approved by ALROSA’s Supervisory Board.

After the resignation of Jose M.A. Ganga Junior, who was the CEO of the Company since its inception in 1995, Sergey Mitiukhin, Alrosa’s African projects Director had taken over  as acting CEO as an interim measure.
