The Ezperanza Diamond Up for Sale; Estimated at US$ 1 Million

When it was found by a tourist, Bobbie Oskarson at the Crater of Diamonds State Park at Murfreesboro,  Arkansas, USA in June 15, 2015, it caught the eye and imagination of the media. When it was cut and polished by master cutter Mike Botha of Canada’s Embee Diamonds it made waves and the process was aired on the internet. Now that it has been set in a piece of jewellery and it currently on view and up for bids, it has caught the fancy of jewellers and jewellery lovers once again.

Named “Ezperanza” by Oskarson, the 8.52 cts (as it was when found in the rough) gemstone is the fifth largest diamond discovered since the establishment of the  park  in 1972; and is reported to be the most valuable diamond found in the US.

The Esperanza has been cut into a 4.6 ct polished stone with 147 facets and has a “unique... teardrop cut triolette shape”, said to be “the first of its kind”.  The diamond has been graded as having a “D” colour and is said to be internally flawless.

Carrying an estimated price of US$ 1 million, the jewel is up for sale through an online bidding process, which is open until February 15, 2016 through the jeweller Black, Starr & Frost.
