VOD - The Dawn of a New Era

Scriptingnew collaborations in order to cross untapped frontiers and markets is the key to drive the gem and jewellery business. In a first far-reaching move, Fiera di Vicenza strategically shifted one of its three annual shows held in Vincenzaoro to Dubai.

The inaugural Vicenzaoro Dubai (VOD) show, an alliance between Fiera di Vicenza (FDV) and the Dubai World Trade Centre, was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Hasher Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, director general of Dubai’s Department of Information, amidst fanfare on April 23, 2015. Organised by the newly formed company DV Global Link, the VOD is being held in association with the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and is supported by the DMCC and Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group. The show aims to become the jewellery destination for the Gulf and its neighbouring countries.

Speaking at a press conference, FDV president Matteo Marzotto said, “Vicenzaoro Dubai is an absolute novelty and an extraordinary opportunity for the entire global gold and jewellery supply chain, held at a time of the year which sees the sector at its most active – between the Baselworld and Las Vegas shows in a strategic market such as Dubai. Holding the show in Dubai was the most important decision that I have taken since taking over the FDV.”

Compact in size, the VOD fair has a neatly organised format and houses 500 brands from 20 countries spread over 12,000 sq m. More than 6,000 buyers from 75 countries have already registered for the show that displays high-end fine jewellery, gemstones and packaging and supply-related products not only from Italy but also from India, Hong Kong, Antwerp, Greece, Turkey and theUAE.

The show also brings the premium and prestigious invite-only couture jewellery show, About J, to Dubai.

Pankaj Parekh, GJEPC vice chairman, stated that the Middle East accounts for 30% of India’s gem and jewellery exports making it the largest export destination for the industry in current times. “The Council is pleased to collaborate with VOD and help promote business for 110 Indian exhibitors participating in the show.”
