5th India Diamond Week Opens in New York

The 5th edition of the India Diamond Week welcomed large numbers of visitors as it opened on the trading floor of the Diamond Dealers Club, New York yesterday. The event is organised by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) in association with Diamond Dealers Club, New York.

 

Sixteen leading Indian diamond companies are taking part in the event which will run till August 25. The event has now been establised as an annual trading platform for the Indian diamantaires in USA to fortify their business relationships with leading American diamond traders.

 

India is the largest supplier of diamonds to the USA, ahead of Belgium and Israel, with polished exports to that country totalling $63.84 billion during 2015.

 

Speaking about the significance of the event, GJEPC Chairman Praveenshankar Pandya said, “The diamond week is one of the major meeting points for both Indian and American diamantaires and brings together members of the largest diamond manufacturing centre with those from the largest diamond and diamond jewellery consuming nation under one roof.”

 

He added that the USA is not only a significant export destination for India but is also now showing positive economic growth.
