ALROSA Finds Two Large Rough Diamonds in Yakutia

ALROSA has recovered two large rough diamonds from mines in Yakutia. On July 16, 2017 a 75-carat stone was recovered at the Processing Plant No. 14 of Aikhal Mining and Processing Division; two days later on July 18, a very big stone – weighing almost 110 carats -- was recovered at the Processing Plant No. 3 of ALROSA’s Mirny Mining and Processing Division.

“These large rough diamonds became presents for two anniversaries celebrated by the Company – 60 years of the diamond mining industry and 25 years of ALROSA,” the Company said announcing the recovery of the two diamonds.

While both stones are octahedron crystals with small inclusions, one of them has a straw-yellow tint. Both gems are considered, on initial examination, to be gem quality diamonds

“In just a few days, (the) diamonds will arrive at ALROSA’s Diamond Sorting Center, where they will be studied thoroughly and each of them will receive a special passport,” ALROSA said. The Company also revealed that according to its tradition, the large diamonds may be given names; and this is something the Company will considershortly.
