Gem Diamonds Recovers 114 Carat Yellow Diamond at Letšeng Mine

Gem Diamonds announced that it had recovered yet another large rough diamond, this one a 114.2 carat yellow diamond from its Letšeng mine in Lesotho last week.

This is the sixth gem-quality rough diamond of over 100 carats recovered from the mine this year. The Company said that the Letšeng mine is renowned for its production of large, top-colour, exceptional white diamonds, and describes it as the highest average dollar per carat kimberlite diamond mine in the world.

Prior to this, an exceptional 140 carat high quality white diamond had been recovered in July and two diamonds greater than 100 carats had been found during the April-June quarter.

During the year the company has also recovered some exceptional fancy coloured diamonds, with the latest recovery being the fourth significant find in this category in 2019.

As reported earlier, Gem Diamonds had recovered and sold a 13.33 carat pink diamond for a Letšeng record of US$ 656,933 per carat.

During Q2, the Company also sold eight diamonds for more than US$ 1.0 million each.
