GJEPC Hosts Training Programme for Customs Officials in Kolkata

GJEPC’s Kolkata Regional Office conducted a four-day Gold Appraiser and Valuer Training Programme from 1 to 4 December 2025 at the Kolkata Customs Air Cargo Commissionerate, building practical skills for customs officers handling gems, precious stones, gold, and jewellery.

The sessions were led by Koushik SV, Head of Skill Development, GJEPC, who covered gemstone and diamond identification, precious metal purity checks using XRF technology, and key assaying techniques. Pankaj Parekh, Regional Chairman – East, GJEPC, noted that smoother export processes depend on well-trained officers and that such programmes support ease of doing business for the sector.

The workshop closed with a certificate ceremony attended by Chief Guest Shri R. Srinivasa Naik, IRS, Chief Commissioner of Customs, and Guest of Honour Shri Shivaji Dange, IRS, Principal Commissioner of Customs (Airport and ACC), joined by Joint Commissioner Shilpi Srivastava and senior officials. Naik thanked GJEPC for organising the initiative and encouraged more such capacity-building efforts to support efficient export operations at the cargo shed.
