GJEPC Meets Delhi Customs Officials to Streamline Hand-Carry Jewellery Exports

GJEPC held a meeting with top Customs officials in New Delhi on 6 May to discuss and finalise draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the personal carriage of import/export shipments. The primary focus of the discussion was to simplify and expedite the hand-carry procedures for jewellery exporters, ultimately fostering a more business-friendly environment.

Mr. Antarpal Singh Sawhney, Regional Chairman - North, GJEPC, voiced the concerns of the exporting community during the meeting held at the office of the Chief Commissioner of Customs. He specifically highlighted the ongoing difficulties encountered in dispatching hand-carry shipments, particularly the processes involved in depositing and releasing jewellery parcels intended for exhibitions at the Passenger Cargo Wing (PCW), Celebi Cargo.

Senior officials from the Customs department actively participated in the dialogue, including the Commissioner of Customs (ACC Exports), Principal Commissioner (ACC Exports), and Commissioner (Airport Imports). Mr. Anil Sankhwal, Convener, Studded Jewellery Panel, GJEPC; Mr. K.K. Duggal, Director - Policy, GJEPC; and Mr. Sanjeev Bhatia, Regional Director - North, GJEPC participated in the discussion.
