The Museum of Gem and Jewellery Federation (MGJF), Jaipur, an initiative sponsored by jewellers from Jaipur in New York was inaugurated this morning at a special function attended by members of the trade. The MGJF is a not for profit company set up with the aim of showcasing the rich heritage of the Pink City, which is a world renowned centre for manufacturing coloured gemstones, and presenting the fascinating stories of these stones to a wider audience.

The project is supported by the Rajasthan Chamber of Commerce & Industry and has partnerships with Resurgent Rajasthan and the Tourism Department.

The museum has a number of sections which cover different aspects of the industry such as rough, beads, story of stone, variety of jewellery, diamonds, navratnas, etc., through exhibits and articles, some of which have been donated to the museum, while others are loaned or are rotating monthly exhibits.

The main promoter of the project, Dr Rajnikant Shah, is a major supplier of rough gemstones to Jaipur and was one of those who established the IDCA in New York, while its Chairman is Rajiv Jain, former chairman GJEPC and currently Hony Secy of the Jaipur Jewellery Show.

The Museum is a one-of--its-kind in the country and will be open to tourists and the public at large.
