Well known Surat-based company STPL, a manufacturer of medical equipment as well as lasers and other equipment for the diamond cutting and polishing industry, has developed an indigenous ventilator, IndoVent, which will help in the ongoing effort to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ventilator is robust and easy to use, making it ideal for deployment in all types of emergency situations, the Company said, adding that it can be easily operated by para-medics. It has been developed by a team of highly skilled technocrats from STPL in record time and has already passed all the medical trials conducted at the Civil Hospital, Surat by medical experts.

The prototype, which has been validated as per medical norms, has been created from the same parts and technologies used in developing highly precise, automation-oriented solutions for the diamond processing industry, STPL said.

Ventilators, which provide artificial breathing when the lungs of a patient fail to do so naturally, are a piece of life-saving equipment that reports suggest may possibly be in short supply should the pandemic spread more widely in India.

STPL will shortly commence mass production with a plan to produce 250 units per day. The aim is to keep the price of this crucial equipment under Rs 50,000-70,000 per unit.
